A Heartwarming Thanksgiving Tale: Ingrid's Starry Turkey
In an effort to share some art-history fun with Ingrid, last week, I'd suggested we create our unique versions of Van Gogh's Starry Night.
"Isn't Van Gogh the weirdo who sliced his ear off?" my 7-year-old friend asked.
"Er..." .
"He is, Debbie! My mom has this big book about Van Gogh at home and I read it. He was in some kinda prison, I think. And he sliced his ear off!"
Well, so much for gaeity.
"I take it that we're not making our own versions of Starry Night, then?" I asked her.
"Nuh-uh. I wanna make a turkey."
"Sounds good to me."
And we were off. We took the long route, too, as opposed to the traditional (and ever crappy) hand-tracing "technique"-- blech. I was all about diligence and creativity while Ingrid desired "pretty", and together we designed, developed and detailed two turkeys with a variety of media, endless colors and many-a-clipping.
Ingrid sprinkled loads of glitter onto her feathery friend-- her final touches. And when she was all done, Starry Turkey (a blending of Starry Night and the Thanksgiving turkey) was born:
Starry TurkeyHappy Thanksgiving, all!
